We are welcome you in National Research University "MPEI" for the Annual Meeting of the Executive Committee and Working Groups of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) and Symposium "Water and Steam: Industrial and Scientific Applications" which is scheduled for June 23-27, 2014 and organized by the Russian National Committee of IAPWS.

If you want to pay in Moscow, it is not a problem to complete the above steps in Moscow at the registration desk. However please fill the registration form and send it to us in any case. It will help us to know that you will apply for IAPWS Meeting.

There is the possibility to get the invitaitons like in "Lefortovo" hotel for persons who have booked other hotels. We have agreement with "Demlink" travel agency and they can make invitations for different types of visas. In order to apply for it we need the same information like for invitations using MPEI but with booking confirmation from the hotel. It costs about 20 EURO (for tourist visa only, for business visa the price is depends on country). For all questions please contact us.

Two hotels have been chosen for the IAPWS Meeting 2014. You can find map with Meeting places and hotels here. They are most close to MPEI and can be reached without metro or busy roads.
Note that hotels will hold the rooms for IAPWS delegates up to the 1st of May, 2014. Please book the hotel room before this time. If you have any question with hotel, please don't hesitate to contact us. Contacting details are given below.

Note that these hotels doesn't require payment for booking. This is an additional service to you. If you make a reservation and decide to not use the hotel room please provide hotel and us information about your choice.
Limited number of rooms are available in students dormitory of MPEI. The room conditions are inferior, but they are comparably cheap. Internet WiFi is possible but with additional charge. Please contact Konstantin Orlov for students dormitory conditions.

There are three international Airports around Moscow: Sheremetyevo (in the north), Domodedovo (in the south) and Vnukovo (in the west).

There are few choices for transfer from airport to hotel. You need to choose what is most suitable for you.
If you have a lot of luggage we recommend to use taxi services. Using metro or AeroExpress can be difficult in this case.
Due to Moscow traffic the time of transfer using taxi is unpredictable. Usually it doesn't matter to transfer from aiport to hotel, but we recommend to use AeroExpress to transfer from the hotel to airport (when you will leave the Moscow).
The price of different transfers choices can be comparable. As example taxi from Domodedovo is about 2000 roubles (from taxi desk). AeroExpress costs 400 roubles to Paveletskiy railway terminal, taxi to hotel can costs 400-1000 roubles (depends on traffic) or metro and tram (from Paveletskiy railway terminal to hotel) is 50 roubles (Ticket for travel by bus, trolleybus, tram, metro and monorail system services with validity limited to 90 minutes). For few persons together using taxi from aiport to hotel can be cheaper.

Also you can use transfer agencies like this (IWayEx) for arranging transfer. We use them few times and find it not bad.
AeroTaxi. In February it seems very useful: you can use AeroExpress to transfer to the centre of Moscow and after that using the taxi. But AeroTaxi desk is available only in Sheremetyevo (it may not works). Internet site of AeroTaxi allows to arrange transfer only using phone call - it's useful only inside Russia. So using AeroTaxi is not very good - we don't recommend to use it (sorry for any inconvenience)..
AeroExpress train is very usefull to transfer from/to the airports to/from one of the railway terminal in the centre of Moscow. To/From Domodedovo it costs 400 roubles (can be cheaper if you buy using Internet).
We recommend to use AeroExpress train to transfer to airport when leaving the Moscow. You can arrange taxi from the hotel to the railway terminal and use AeroExpress to transfer to the airport.
However using AeroExpress train to transfer from aiport to hotel is questionable.
For the first you can have a lot of luggage. It can be difficult to move with luggage.
Also arranging a taxi from railway terminal can be difficult - as example in Paveletskiy railway terminal (AeroExpress from Domodedovo airport) I can't find taxi desk - only unofficial taxi drivers is available. Usually we solve this problem by using metro or call to taxi services. But using taxi services in this case can be difficult - they can talk only in Russian.
Using metro (Subway, Underground, official title: Rapid Transit Systems of Moscow) to transfer from railway terminal can be usefull, but please note that it's hard to use with luggage - we have a lot of stairs in metro!
You can use metro and trams to move from/to hotel to/from railway terminal (and apply for AeroExpress to/from airport).
Prices in metro are different. Single ride is 50 roubles. For few rides we recommend to buy "Troika" e-wallet: deposit is 50 roubles and as example 100 roubles (or more) for using - you can check the amount money in e-wallet using yellow terminals in metro, or in terminals when you pay using e-wallet. For "Troika" cost of single ride is 28 roubles. You can use "troika" for buses, trams and trolleys too. You can also buy ticket for 90-minutes ride using metro and bus/tram/trolley - it costs 50 roubles.
Please note that you need to enter tram/bus/trolley in the first door. Other doors are used only for exit.

For the first please note that Moscow ranked 2nd most expensive city in the World. Cup of coffee usually costs about 8,3 $US.
One entrance to metro (not depending on time) costs 40 RUR (The price for entrance with luggage is 50 RUR). You can buy 5-entrance ticket. It cost 150 RUR (one entrance will be for 30 RUR). Note that you must use such tickets within 5 days. It is not possible to use credit/debit cards for metro ticket. Other prices are given on official site of Moscow Metro.
Note about taxi in Moscow. This is also applied if you will ask for a taxi in airport or AeroExpress. Due to Moscow's traffic, usually taxi drivers will calculate the different fees by using kilometers and using minutes. And you will pay for higher value from these options. If you will apply for big traffic this can lead to enormous charges. As example it is very easy to spend 4 or more hours to ride from airport to hotel (for 9 RUR per minute it will cost 2 200 RUR). Many peoples in Moscow spend 2 hours in the morning to go to work and 2 hours in evening to go home.
Russian ruble (rouble, RUR) is about 0,029 $US or 0,021 EURO. 1 $US = 34 RUR; 1 EURO = 47 RUR.
Note that not at all places in Moscow you can use credit/debit card. Please have a small amount of RUR. Please use only official exchange offices (in banks) for money exchange. Transfer rate at airports is not very good as usual. In exchange office also please ask for additional charges. Sometimes they are written with small letters somewhere in text information. Usually it is not a problem to find exchange office without additional charges. Exchange offices usually located near Metro stations.
Please take care while crossing the streets. Even at pedestrian crossing and at green light! Usually follow very simple but important rule: look to the left (and to the right for more safety), wait for no cars, go up to the centre of street, look to the right, wait for no cars and continue to cross the street.
